Is It Even Worth It Anymore?

Ten months ago, I quit a job that left me overworked and underpaid. I had the four day schedule that most people dream of.

32 hours per week with Fridays off. But for some reason that still wasn’t enough to keep me there. My co-workers were great, but forced team lunches/outings, company social hours, system migrations, and RTO were not.

A job that I once loved became a place I had to survive. And I didn’t go into $50,000 worth of debt for an accounting degree just to survive.

So I left.

I rested. I learned new skills and I picked up hobbies that I’d lost over the years. You know, being a human with a personality. And though my heart was happy, my bank account was not. The bills didn’t stop coming. And all roads lead back to…corporate.

Which means that now I’m surviving something new.

Unemployment.

Companies take weeks to respond to an application or follow up after a phone interview. But more often than not they just ghost me. I have a degree and 10 years of work experience and I’ve been wracking my brain to figure out how getting back to work could possibly be THIS hard.

This hurts just as bad as heartbreak.

And now I have to ask myself, why am I trying so hard to get back into a system that burns me out anyway?

You’re trying so hard because you have been wired to feel that you should feel that way.

I agree. The wiring goes deep.
